I hope this year is better, and I think it will be

Last year three family members died, and I knew they probably would when the year began, but that still didn't really prepare me. I've changed so much as a person this year, and I think I am still changing rapidly. I don't really feel like I know who I will be next month. I do have some hopes of what I will be though.

There are a few big goals for this year.

I want to figure out time management.

I want to bike commute much more often.

I want to learn to cook.

I want to do more computer programming.

I want to get back in school.

I'm sure the list is bigger than that, but those are the things I think about the most.

Happy new year everybody.

If you're looking to learn to cook, I highly recommend investing in a good knife. It makes life sooooo much easier. For starting out I would go with a 6" or 8" chef's knife with a carbon steel blade. Keep it in a knife block (NOT the drawer), keep it honed with a steel, and never let it see the inside of a dishwasher or one of those ghastly electric knife sharpeners.

I'm also a big fan of this site.

Learning to cook

My current housemate used to be a professional caterer, so I'm mostly covered as far as equipment. I just need to convince her to give me more lessons. She was explaining to people about me "you don't understand he knows NOTHING". My knowledge level is so low that I need books to help me understand the books. :/

The link looks pretty good. Most resources love to say things like "season to taste" which is completely useless to me as I have no sense of the art. Perhaps I can understand something like this better. Thanks!

Cool. I wrote an article a while back on seducing women through cooking if you don't know how to cook~> http://thanksforthemammaries.net/written/host/index1.html

It's very...specific, but some good general tips there ;)
