Linux from scratch

music: It's My Life....

On Tuesday I finished building a simple version of Linux from source code, and it actually booted. Only nerds seem to appreciate this accomplishment. Considering that it wasn't that many months ago that I found myself against a wall of incomprehension whenever I tried to do something I'm proud of how fast I am learning. My goal from the beginning has been to write 3d Linux software. Something that is hard to do when you don't know how anything works. Especially when the 3d rendering subsection of your operating system isn't working, you have no idea why, and even less of an idea of how to fix it. Even my friend who makes a living selling Everquest Plat on eBay is calling me a nerd.

It was really hot today, so I didn't feel like going outside at all. I especially didn't want to go paint my Grandpa's house. I decided I won't let him use guilt on me. The area that needs to be painted is both in the shade, and protected from the weather. There isn't any reason that it needs to be painted right away that I can think of. It doesn't even look that bad. I probably should have called him anyways.

I really didn't like to be outside today at all. Even the short trip across the parking lot from the car to Home Depot was painful. I got a roll of the insulation thats sort of like bubble wrap sandwiched between two layers of aluminum foil. I considered getting the thick foam panels for half the price, but I decided that I couldn't even get it into my car without cutting it into chunks. Also it's going to be so much easier to store it away during the cold season. I guess I will find out if it does a good job of keeping the heat out of my room tomorrow morning. It's a lot bigger than my window, but it was the smallest piece I could get that would cover the whole thing. If it works well I might get a second piece. I would have enough for three layers then, and supposedly have better insulation for my window than the surrounding walls have.

I really think the exercise is paying off. I feel a ton better. I think I dropped a few pounds too.

I bet my self/home improvement is boring to read about. I guess I could go find some drama, but I'm just not that interested in it right now.

Go Dan. Doesn't it feel great to accomplish a goal? Lately you seem to be heading in impressively constructive directions.

It does. I have accomplished other goals, but this one feels more real than some of the others.

that's awesome that you finished building linux. i still have no idea what that entails, but i know it's complicated so i am quite impressed. :)
what's with the insulation for the window? your room gets really hot or something? heres it's been in the 90s and raining [i love rain, but once it's gone it's more humid outside]. the other day it got over 100 and the uv index is like 10. you know i'm not going outside if i can help it :P i hate the heat

I think it was 98 degrees today. They showed a lot of pictures of people being hauled away by ambulances after they got heat stroke. I must protect myself from the heat.

Linux is cool. It's also a fringe operating system. I feel a little bit like I am part of an elite club.

I don't know if I can be entertaining with descriptions of exercise. I could make a graph I guess. Of my weight loss I mean. If I had a camera I could take pictures, but they would tend to be the same things day after day.

This will be a creative challenge.

You could describe the way it sounds.
